Make Your Porch A Home Just Outside Your Home

Make Your Porch A Home Just Outside Your Home

It's that time of year when everything comes back to life after a long winter. The trees are blooming with gorgeous flowers, and your garden is beginning to thrive again. Now that the snow shovels and rakes have been put away, it's time to enjoy your porch, relax, and feel the fresh spring air. If you've been wanting to optimize your porch for spring but need some inspiration, here are some tips and ideas.

PILLOWS, PLANTERS, PLACES TO SIT:

It's the three P's to make your porch your home just outside your home! Consider a wicker loveseat, a simple rocking chair, or a glider for three. It's easy to change up the cushions on your porch seating with different covers, just make sure that the fabric is weather and sun resistant. Sunbrella fabrics are excellent for outdoor furniture. If you want to enjoy a meal on your porch, a simple metal table and chairs will look great in a variety of styles and settings.

Pillows are a great and comfortable way to accent your seating, and make your porch feel even more inviting. Depending on the overall look you're going for, you can add as many pillows as you like in different shapes and sizes. Pillows are easy to make yourself, and a nice way to experiment with different patterns and colors, as you can have a different fabric on each side. This way, depending on your mood, you can just flip the pillow over for a different look. If you aren't interested in pillow making, pillows are easy to find at most stores with an outdoor section.

If you don't have the space or time for a full garden, planter boxes make it easy to use or develop a green thumb. They can be attached to the front of your porch, or in front of a window. Planters are good for flowers, or a herb garden. Small gardening like this is an excellent family activity, and a low risk project for anyone who has thought about gardening but is intimidated by the maintenance.

COLOR:

When people think of spring colors, they think of bright pastels like pink, green, and yellow. Floral patterns are a go-to spring pattern. Stripes and plaids will also look lovely on your porch. If you currently have porch furniture and want to spruce it up for the new season, it's an easy DIY project to spray paint your wooden or metal furniture. No matter how you decide to decorate your porch for spring, the most important thing is to have fun.
