It's all fun and games decorating for the holidays, but when it comes to storing the decorations for next year that familiar sense of dread from last year's holiday cleanup fills our heads once more. Most of the time, it's tempting to just throw everything together in a box and deal with untangling lights and throwing away broken ornaments the next year, but there are easier ways to store decorations without the long-awaited hassle for next time.
Shrink Wrap That Tree!
One of the hardest things to find a way to store is the good ol' Christmas Tree. Sure, you can put it back in the box or in a storage container, but have you thought of wrapping it in plastic wrap? It might sound like a weird thing to do, but it works, and you won't have a mess of needles to clean up. Plus, you won't have to deal with all the dust that might accumulate on the tree if it were stored in the garage or attic.
What About The Ornaments?
Of course, the easiest thing to do with ornaments is to pop them into a storage container, but just doing that jostles them around and leaves them unorganized. If you're a sucker for organization, try color/pattern coding the ornaments by putting them into big resealable bags together. Then, you can pop them into the storage container without a mess.
Now... The Garland
It seems like buying new garland and Christmas lights is a must every single year. They get all tangled up when they're stored away, and it's almost impossible to get them untangled enough to put on the tree. An easy thing to do with the special strings is to wrap them around empty wrapping paper tubes, but make sure to tape the ends down. This way, all you have to do next year is simply unroll and string them up!
The holidays don't always have to be a hassle, and neither do the days following. You can simplify the decorating and storing by following these tips.
